Resolutions are just too black and white.
We either did. Or, we didn’t.
What feels right to me this year is a scale rather than an absolute.
Last week, I kicked off 2020 with a list of what I’ll do more of and what I’ll do less of.
I encourage you to try the more-of/ less-of exercise. It’s been mind-blowing how the more/less mantra has guided my choices since January 1. It’s aided my decision making and feels really good every time I say “yes” to one of the items in the more-of category and every time I say “no” to a less-of item.
To get you started, here’s what made my list this year.
More of:
- Yoga
- Stretching
- Meditation (sharing one I’m LOVING)
- Plant-based food
- Listening
- Playing with my son
- God and spirituality
- Reading
- Space to think
- Progress
- Adventure
- Writing
- Calling friends
- Human-centered design (the honey hole of Design Thinking and UX resources from Nielsen Norman Group)
- Asking for help
- Asking deeper questions
- Executive and leadership coaching
- Going to bed early
- Cultivating my intuition
- Focus on fitness
- Walking on the ground / beach barefoot (this documentary will blow your mind. It makes sense when you think about it and is worth trying)
Less of:
- Wine
- Perfection
- Being spread too thin
- Being unfocused
- Focus on weight
Let this be the year of letting our “More-of’s” guide our steps (and those steps will be with bare feet if you’re with me on the last bullet of the more-ofs. And, I trust that it will be one of our best years so far.
